Jaguarapira Wildlife Reserve

Jaguarapira Wildlife Reserve

In 1994, as a master’s student in forest science, I started a project to restore the vegetation of a piece of land I eventually bought in 1998. Located near the base of a granite dome in southern Brazil, the property had originally harbored a mix of Atlantic Forest and the almost extinct Araucaria Forest, but these had been severely degraded by mining. After 22 years of restoration the forest cover is back as well wildlife.

Walden XXI

Walden XXI

Ecovila Urbana Sta. Margarida and Ecovila Rural São Luiz

The project is constituted by the Urban Ecovillage Santa Margarida (41 families) and the Rural Ecovillage São Luiz (20 families), 2km apart from each other and connected by the Anhumas river and by the designed linear park, defining the ecovillages’ axis.
Along with the Linear Park and with Santa Margarida Ecovillage, the project predicts the insertion of the Flor do Anhumas Green Building and Sustainable Practices Institute, that has been collaborating with the project by ministering lectures and courses regarding green building and sustainable practices for employees and representatives of local government, in student conferences and in popular events, and also for the mentioned ecovillages’ members.

Aldeia, family collective

Aldeia, family collective

Aldeia is an open space where each individual can express him or herself in his or her own unique way

We are a group of friends and families attempting to live together, and in harmony with nature. We believe in having a relationship with the land we live on.

We believe in community, in the sharing of resources, skills and ideas. Each member of our community has a skill to teach and a perspective to share, but we more than anything else, seek to be students; students of nature, of our common history, and of community living.
